Excellent analysis and thoughtful essay. I loved how you seamlessly brought AI into the conversation, as though you had been leading up to that point the whole time - yet successfully made it about much, much more. Bravo - liked and shared! <3

Thanks, Dad! I actually didn’t know AI would be a part of this when I started writing! But it was hard to avoid since it seems to come up all the time now. πŸ€–πŸ™ˆπŸ˜…

I always think when we first become embarrassed in our lives or realize people may be looking at us... That is when the creativity stops. Usually around ages 5-6, I believe. And then if you become an artist, your journey is trying to grab it back and hold on to it as then you realize how truly dear it is. Great article! And I love this last part of 'I’m just another human who happens to engage with them at different levels.' As tthat was definitely a life lesson for me as well. Realizing that we don't learn the same, and how that's okay.

Thanks, Eliza! There’s definitely a trauma at the core of this – it’s a universal experience but the exact moment is deeply personal. It’s all I can see now when people say they aren’t creative or they can’t draw – somewhere inside there’s a little kid who got told they were doing something wrong and who stopped trying to express themselves. It’s really upsetting!

And then I realized I used to do the exact same thing with math and science in school because I was embarrassed about not being a great student in those classes. πŸ€”πŸ˜… Looks like we all have a bit of trauma around these things!

Oh yah, so true on the exact moment. And instead of expressing ourselves we get on the assimilation train of trying to create in what we believe will make others think we are creative. Trauma Train πŸš†
